If you’re like me, then you would know exactly what the curse of being busy feels like.
The constant inner turmoil of needing to be occupied to avoid whatever problems that are peeping their heads, as opposed to directly addressing them. The need to prove yourself, to better yourself, to analyse and berate yourself.
Some see this as a personality quirk, others see it as something more serious, diagnosable even. Personally though, I see it as a way of coping within a world that is also plagued by this same curse.
Busy streets, busy walkways, busy days, busy minds, busy lives. Everything is exactly that, busy.
In saying this, there is some solice to be found, which I sincerely appreciate, and thats the calming moments that come before and after the storm.
These moments are what makes being busy worth it. You learn to appreciate and cherrish them, holding onto them and the people you share them with.
Think back to a time where you were’nt busy and remember how much you enjoyed it. Who were you with? What were you doing? Where did you go?
Do you really think you would have enjoyed that time as much had you not been busy before?
Recently, I had the pleasure of spending 3 days away with my partner, fishing off of a quiet beach town about 2 hours north of Perth.
The week preceeding this trip was absoluteley hectic. Several due dates and deadlines on a numerous amount of tasks and works fell all into the same few days. I could not wait for it to be over.
But, looking back, I’m thankful for being that busy, becuase the reward at the end of it of getting some quality time, a fishing rod and some squid was absolutely worth it in the end, and felt just that bit more sweet!
Being busy, at least within my life, is a welcomed vice, because without it, I wouldnt really be me. That being said, for whoever’s reading this, find a good balance that suits your own situation and always look forward to that day on the beach.
Being busy is a curse, but there’s always time to breathe.
